KPFT has been the purveyor of independent thoughts and ideas for many years in the Houston area thanks to the continued support of the listeners. Today KPFT is needed more than ever because of the complete saniterization of the commercial and non-profit radio stations around the country. We the members of KPFT should recommit to the ideals of independent and provocative programming. My name is DeWayne Lark, I am a candidate for the local board because I believe in the mission of KPFT. One of my main objectives is to help increase our listener and supporter base. My radio experience began in 1978 at the former Columbia School of broadcasting here in Houston. During those years you were required to be licensed by the FCC in order to be an on air personality. I later studied radio & television production at Texas Southern University pursuing a mass communications degree. I interrupted my studies at TSU to join the US Air Force and serve as an Air Traffic Controller until 1984. I have produced commercial radio programming on KYOY AM – Houston, and non-profit programming on KCOH AM and KFCC AM, both Houston stations. Through direct outreach and innovative marketing it is my belief that KPFT can reach its full potential in the next few years. I have served as chairman or president of various community organizations with broad and deep roots in this area, and I have a strong commitment to enhancing the arts and culture in the Houston area. I hope to help raise funds, awareness and consciousness throughout the KPFT radio spectrum. With your support we can initiate a new era of KPFT‘s storied history, we can make Pacifica’s KPFT a model for independent radio everywhere. Please vote for DeWayne Lark for KPFT board of directors. Thanks for your support.
I ask for your vote.
