Listener Candidate for the KPFT Local Station Board
Statement
I grew up in West Texas in a small town near Midland Odessa. I moved to Houston around 1972 after completing nursing school and started a family. I raised two boys as a single parent and have always participated and encouraged community projects. Currently, I am Precinct Judge for Precinct 231. My interest in KPFT is fueled mainly by the fact that its main focus is to educate the public.
I am a strong proponent for education and the first on both my maternal and paternal side to attend college. I come from a diverse background of experiences from being raised in a predominately rural white farming community to raising my two sons in an urban largely Latino and black community. I am proud of this rich diverse background and respect all cultural experiences.
I started listening to KPFT around ten years ago and have been impressed with the content and dedication of many programs it airs. My interest grew as my son became more involved with the station and I became more aware of the need for Public Not-for-Profit Broadcasting.
I am running for the station board because I would like to contribute back to something that has meant so much for the community. I believe that KPFT encourages and supports inclusiveness between all people, community and nations. I hope that you consider voting for me to join the local station board.
