the Candidates KPFT Listener Candidates Deb Shafto Candidate Statement Deb Shafto Candidate StatementI am a long time peace activist and a pre-kindergarten teacher for many years. I believe that the station is essential in our struggle to create a world that works for everyone with no one left out. I have been an active Green Party member and have served as co-chair and on the steering committee. I have served on the KPFT Board since the take back in 2000, both on the local and for 1 year on the PNB. I have chaired the governance committee, the bylaws committee and I was chair of the LAB when we wrote the bylaws. I have served on the national coordinating committee, the committees of elections, governance as well as the sub committees on bylaws revisions. I am thoroughly familiar with the issues that face our station and our network and I bring energy and a willingness to find new solutions. I am looking forward to our new board which has excellent candidates and with whom I believe we can move into the future. Please give me your number 1 vote. Trackback(0)

tilmaya: concerned listener
I am deeply concerned about the increasing exclusion of "other" communities by KPFT's programming. Specifically, I was listening to Connect the Dot today (November 28, 2007) and the host made a racial slur against Asians (referring to KidCare as having been "Shanghai'd") right after talking about the racism that the black community faces from HPD. This statement is clearly derogatory and it is truly disappointing that the person answering the phone calls at KPFT during the show didn't bother to address my concern. I fear that KPFT is going down a path that is increasingly excluding persons outside of the black/African-American communities. What are your plans or vision to make KPFT more inclusive and balanced?
