the Candidates KPFT Staff Candidates George Reiter Candidate Statement George Reiter Candidate StatementI see the challenge of the next years as the creation of more effective means for conflict resolution over station goals, within the context of the mission, and mechanisms for the development of consensus over goals put in place. I am familiar with parliamentary procedure, and would be effective in using those procedures to facilitate the work of the LSB in doing that. The Program Council was a step in this direction, but more is needed. In particular, there needs to be a mechanism for programmers to appeal removal from the air or other sanctions by management, where such decisions can be reviewed to see if they are fair, based on clearly stated and shared goals. And changed if need be. I would like to see the communication between the volunteer programmers increased, and a means of cooperating on programming themes explored. Our volunteer programmers are well known in the various communities of Houston, and I would work to create a means to make better use of programmer contacts in the city for outreach. Trackback(0)

tilmaya: concerned listener
I am deeply concerned about the increasing exclusion of "other" communities by KPFT's programming. Specifically, I was listening to Connect the Dot today (November 28, 2007) and the host made a racial slur against Asians (referring to KidCare as having been "Shanghai'd") right after talking about the racism that the black community faces from HPD. This statement is clearly derogatory and it is truly disappointing that the person answering the phone calls at KPFT during the show didn't bother to address my concern. I fear that KPFT is going down a path that is increasingly excluding persons outside of the black/African-American communities. What are your plans or vision to make KPFT more inclusive and balanced?

Phil T. Rich: ...
WBAI is bankrupt. These elections should be cancelled and redone due to the censorship of the candidates that is taking place.
