Give CD's away of some of our music and news shows on the bus and at East Side, San Fernando Valley, Pomona and SouthLA events. Encourage new programmers from other areas, like KJLH's FrontPage in SouthCentral.

Lower our "premium" costs and let our "nitch" programmers have their own fund drive slots back.

Announce repeatedly during fund drives that one of the main benefits of donating to KPFK is that you get to vote in our Local Board elections. Not only is it a good reason to give, but it will improve participation in our LB elections and ultimately change the complexion of our Board to better reflect our overall community.

I think the LSB has abdicated its responsibility by not organizing fundraising events for KPFK. Part of governance and oversight is fundraising and unfortunately the LSB on the one hand feels very free to say what the staff should or should not do, but when it comes to working to make sure both paid and unpaid staff have the necessary resources, the LSB thus far has fallen down. Indeed as an LSB member, I worked to organize a fundraiser for KPFK’s production office featuring actor and activist Danny Glover and the support I got from the LSB I can count on about 3 fingers. We have to think beyond fund drives, which is a killing amount of work for staff, and organize not only political type fundraisers, but also concerts and more. We also must build relationships with community-based networks that can host fundraisers and since we are based in Hollywood, further develop relationships with actors and others in the movie business that might be very glad to lend support to Pacifica by chairing and/or hosting a fundraiser. I would like to commend the work of Sue Welsh and Gabrielle Woods (on the LSB) who have organized events with donors throughout the signal area.

We are unique in our commitment to being “powered by the people”. With this comes strength of purpose, but certain fiscal limitations. Perhaps we should explore community events and/or concerts as funding raising opportunities.
