Sandra D Rawline Candidate Statement

I’m Sandra D Rawline and I would appreciate your vote. If elected to this term it will be my 5th year to serve as an elected member of the Local Station Board and I am still hopefully optimistic that we will continue to move forward accomplishing our goals along the way.

It has been both an honor and a privilege to serve on the LSB with many respected colleagues and it is because of their encouragement that I have decided to run again.

It has taken considerable time for us to get to where we are and with much adversity but here we are.

Those of us who truly put Pacifica first remain strong and we’re actually getting some good things done:

  • Our programming is more diverse that ever before and a Program Council has been established to help monitor and grow quality programming.
  • Our Outreach Committee has done wonders connecting with the community and getting folks involved.
  • Our Development Committee is always searching for more and creative ways to increase our revenue. Please note the 1st Annual Family Fun Run and Bike Ride sponsored by CFHE to get folks moving and benefit KPFT.
  • Thanks to the Technology and Finance Committees we now have the new, much needed transmitter to help us reach a larger signal area and the HD digital technology is bursting at the seams.
  • Many of the LSB members are participating in strategic long term planning and attending workshops on developing better board relations and communication skills.

There is still much work to be done though and with the community support and involvement we will succeed. Please vote for me in the 2007 KPFT LSB election and thank you for your time, hard work and support.

Sincerely,
Sandra D Rawline

tilmaya: concerned Houston listener
I am deeply concerned about the increasing exclusion of "other" communities by KPFT's programming. Specifically, I was listening to Connect the Dot today (November 28, 2007) and the host made a racial slur against Asians (referring to KidCare as having been "Shanghai'd") right after talking about the racism that the black community faces from HPD. This statement is clearly derogatory and it is truly disappointing that the person answering the phone calls at KPFT during the show didn't bother to address my concern. I fear that KPFT is going down a path that is increasingly excluding persons outside of the black/African-American communities. What are your plans or vision to make KPFT more inclusive and balanced?

WBAI is bankrupt. Dan Siegel of the Pacifica National Board is corrupt. He has been temporarily placed on the national board for one month to sabatoge the elections and allow the WBAI and Justice and Unity corruption to continue.

WBAI is bankrupt. These elections should be cancelled and redone due to the censorship of candidates that is taking place.
