Staci Davis Candidate Statement

KPFT is the greatest radio station in Texas. There is no doubt about that. My vision is to ensure that the rest of the United States discovers what we already know to be true. In a city rife with so many very powerful people it can be difficult for "little guys" like KPFT to be heard. This is why as your station board representative I will work towards syndicating more of our programming onto the Pacifica stream. By working with Nathan Moore, our National Program Coordinator, KPFT management and you the programmers, I will work to ensure that when those crucial national programming decisions are made that our awesome programming is represented for its unique belly of the beast perspective. We have the talent, the desire and the where-with-all to become the most talked about public radio station in the United States, Let's do it y'all!

Thank you for your consideration,
Staci Davis

tilmaya: concerned listener
I am deeply concerned about the increasing exclusion of "other" communities by KPFT's programming. Specifically, I was listening to Connect the Dot today (November 28, 2007) and the host made a racial slur against Asians (referring to KidCare as having been "Shanghai'd") right after talking about the racism that the black community faces from HPD. This statement is clearly derogatory and it is truly disappointing that the person answering the phone calls at KPFT during the show didn't bother to address my concern. I fear that KPFT is going down a path that is increasingly excluding persons outside of the black/African-American communities. What are your plans or vision to make KPFT more inclusive and balanced?

Long-time listener, VAWA advocate(informally). Message of hope--and heads up--ask Tori Amos and RAINN coalition to back you as candidate. Book her for air time on "The Other Side", as honorary host for the week when she's in Texas this November. She loves doing meet-and-greets before concerts (especially in the Fall), and she loves Texas for its women's advocacy.
Also, work up the "Anarchy" alter-ego from Messerschmidt days. Tori's into the role playing gig on her new album.
Sounds crazy, but ya never know 'til ya try.
My heart yearns to see you flourish in radio--Love ya.
