Questionnaire Replies WBAI Listener Candidates Question Eleven Question Eleven: What technologies should the Pacifica Foundation consider for the future? You can find all of the listener candidate's answers to Question Eleven on this page.
WBAI Listener-Sponsor candidatesMarian BorensteinA technical conference with persons possessing expertise in radio engineering, transmission, and computer technology could be helpful in assisting us in both our short-term and long-term planning and development needs. One focus could be on improving our signal strength and perhaps in the future obviating the economic burden of the Empire State Building transmission site.

Tibby BrooksWithin the limitations of cost-effectiveness, we can consider any multi-media technology out there: internet, high-definition and satellite radio, etc. The Foundation has on tap very technology-savvy people at the various stations, and that is the reason for having a National Technology Committee.
Omowale ClayWe should consider HD radio and satellite radio. We should also continue to build on new technologies on the Web, through downloads, streaming and podcasting.
Carla CubitPacifica could consider podcasting, blogging and posting videos on YouTube technologies.
Lisa DavisPacifica needs to always have its eyes on the field of technology, for it is a field that is constantly changing. But the technology that the Foundation definitely needs to stay abreast of is HD (hybrid digital) radio. WBAI recently got a grant to begin adopting this technology, and I think it could be a useful way to add extra channels that could allow us to broaden our programming offerings, although we have to study its feasibility further.
Wellington EchegarayWe should consider all new technologies for broadcasting WBAI to as many people as possible, but we should use sound judgment and think very carefully about the best new technologies for us.
Sara FloundersThis is not my area of expertise, but I am willing to support the investigation and adoption of new technologies when feasible.
Robert M. GoldAgain, I think the internet is the greatest possible resource for expanding the influence of the information that we can provide. Perhaps we need to have a greater relationship with Link TV.

Stefan S. NeustadterI must get more involved before attempting this answer.
Bok-keem NyerereSatellite radio, HD radio, and whatever else we can identify that is within our means.

James RossHD (digital) radio is appealing because it allows for multiple over-the-air streams. And of course anything that makes the audio archives more accessible and shareable. A wiseacre (but truthful) answer to this question would be "pocket calculators for board members" so Pacifica's fiduciaries will better grasp our deepening financial crisis. Many is the time I have been the only person in a finance committee meeting of 20 people with a calculator.
Marianella TriocheThere are many technologies that can be considered as worthwhile implementing at the local stations. Some examples are HD radio, satellite radio, internet just to name a few. We must also consider the cost of utilizing these advances and the listeners’ ability to utilize the technology. Trackback(0)
