Question One: Why do you wish to serve on the Local Station Board? You can find all of the listener candidate's answers to Question One on this page.
WBAI Listener-Sponsor candidatesMarian BorensteinI was elected to the WBAI Local Station Board in 2004 after I had been a member of its predecessor, the WBAI Local Advisory Board, from 1998-2004, on which I had served as vice chair, co-chair and acting chair. My main rationale for serving on both boards has been to provide support to preserve the viability and integrity of our station and to help guarantee its long-term presence and operation. I am also strongly committed to ensuring that WBAI remains a voice for historically disenfranchised communities, especially people of color. I believe that the Justice and Unity Campaign, which has the current board majority, is the best vehicle to accomplish those goals. I urge you to vote for the entire slate, which you can find (as well as much more information) at www.justiceunity.org.
Rolando BiniTo help bring harmony and positive Social Change.
Tibby BrooksWBAI and the activist community it serves is a very important part of my life, and serving on the Local Station Board makes me more directly involved with the station I love. WBAI is the mouthpiece of the fight-back against the juggernaut of privatization and displacement in New York City. I want to ensure that the Board remains sensitive to issues of race by implementing anti-racism training, for which the Justice and Unity Campaign has fought on the National Board. We are also focusing on a capital campaign to fund a building to get out from under the greedy landlords. I urge you to vote for the entire Justice and Unity slate, which you can find (as well as much more information) at www.justiceunity.org. Omowale ClayI want to continue the fight to improve the quality of progressive ideas, culture and politics over one of the last avenues open to educating the peoples of our communities. I want to continue working on the Pacifica Mission with some the finest people I have met as part of the Justice and Unity campaign. Lastly, I want to insure that the station finds a permanent home that will be self-sustaining for its future. Please vote for all 8 of us who are running with the Justice and Unity Campaign. You can get all the information on the candidates and our positions at www.justiceunity.org.
Carla CubitI would like to help participate in the decision making process for the WBAI local radio station board and give input and feedback as a listener.
Lisa DavisI wish to continue serving on the Board because I believe in the mission of the Pacifica Foundation and I think that access to the media to be able to tell of the joys and pains of people – to be able to tell their truths and realities – is essential toward achieving socio-economic parity in this country. And as a New Jersey resident, born and raised, it is also important to make sure that we have a voice on the Board to help ensure that local issues are covered involving the other states – parts of New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania – that are a part of the WBAI signal area. Also, I want to ensure that WBAI and Pacifica remain a voice for the progressive Black community and other disenfranchised communities. And the only way for that to happen is to have strong progressive people from these communities on the Board. That’s exactly what the Justice & Unity slate represents, why I’m proud to be running with them, and why I urge you to rank all 8 of us. You can get all the information about the Justice & Unity slate at www.justiceunity.org. I welcome your suggestions and questions. Wellington EchegarayI would be very proud to be a member of the Local Station Board of WBAI, because WBAI responds to the political, social, and cultural needs of the people. I am especially proud to run for the board as part of the Justice and Unity slate, because all of us share a strong commitment to keep WBAI focused on covering those issues and making sure all the oppressed communities have their own voice. Pacifica Radio provides comprehensive coverage of many struggles against capitalism and in favor of democracy in places like Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Nicaragua, as well as throughout the rest of the world. It is the only radio station that takes a strong stand on human rights, immigrants’ rights, health care, housing, police misconduct, and social and economic inequities. As a Latino living in the New York City area, I would like to contribute by reaching out to help bring more Latino voices onto the air, and to increase involvement of the Latino community with the station. I ask you to vote for all 8 of our candidates – you can find the list and more information at www.justiceunity.org.
Sara FloundersAfter serving for the last 3 years on Local Station Board I more seriously appreciate the long term, day to day struggle to keep WBAI a resource for communities and movements that are under attack. I want to continue playing my part in keeping the station strong.
Robert M. GoldI wish to serve on the WBAI LSB because I am concerned about the continuing financial crisis at the station. I would like to bring more transparency to the problems at the station and to play a constructive in finding solutions to these problems.
Seth GoldbergThe station is in deep financial trouble. I'd like to try to help.
Jennifer JagerI would like to see an open, honest and creative board, that deals in reality not fantasy in matters of budget and finance The station has deteriorated in the last three years of JUC majority and I would like to participate in restoring the station both in terms of finances and programming.
Kenneth LauferI wish to augment the voting power of the minority on the Local Station Board, whom I feel have better ideas for solving WBAI's financial problems.
Pat LoganI would like to serve on the Local Station Board to repay a small part of the debt I owe WBAI for being my single most important source of information and education during most of my life. For example, I could not have developed feminist consciousness without the women's programming so prevalent during the 1970's and in such short supply today. As a blind person I had almost no access to print material written from a progressive perspective until the advent of screen reading computer software and the wide availability of the Internet. I also hope to be a very imperfect stand in for Susan Blake, an energetic, wise and well loved Long Island activist who died on October 2nd. In our last conversation she told me that if she were in better health she would have been an independent candidate. Considering her perseverance and her wide circle of supporters from various struggles I have no doubt that she would have won a Board seat and played a very positive role.

Lee McClure-ComeI wish to serve on the board to save the station from going bankrupt.
Stefan S. NeustadterI am concerned about the constant financial crisis and obvious internal conflict. The fight against the coup brought us all together. I'd like to see that spirit again to keep our singular and irreplaceable voice on the air.
Bok-keem NyerreI am familiar with varied communities within the tri-state listening area and am eager to play a role in developing more outreach to them. I wish to assist in finding the station a new location where the space is affordable and convenient to reach via public transportation, and to join in a capital campaign to make that possible. I’m very proud to be running on the Justice & Unity slate. Please vote for all 8 of the Justice & Unity candidates. The list of candidates and more information about them can be found at www.justiceunity.org.

James RossI listen to WBAI a lot. It's a unique resource and especially valuable in these times of growing media consolidation and increasing fascistic aspect to our government. WBAI supports journalism that no other radio station around here can. I want the station to thrive. I think a good board would help. And I want the Pacifica mission - to use the radio to understand conflict, air news unavailable elsewhere, and provide an outlet to the cultural energies of the community - to endure.
Marianella TriocheI am running as a candidate for the WBAI Local Station Board because I firmly believe that the station represents a great asset to its listeners by informing them and clarifying the issues of the day in a manner that is not controlled by the corporate world. I have been an activist in New York City for about thirty years in causes such as women's issues, police brutality, and immigrant’s rights. My passion about these issues is the reason I am running with the Justice and Unity Campaign, to help ensure as a board member that the station remains the voice of the voiceless. I think my activist experience will be an asset to the board. Trackback(0)
