Pacifica Radio seeks a creative and talented editor/producer to carry out the day-to-day production of a daily election news module in 2008. The ideal candidate will be committed to Pacifica’s peace and social justice mission, will be a skilled and efficient editor/producer, and will be able to bring a fresh and creative approach to this new program. This is a part-time (50%) position that includes benefits and is based in the Washington, D.C. area.
The daily election news module will be pre-recorded in the afternoons/evenings Sunday through Thursday for broadcast the following day. Five- and eight-minute versions will be distributed to Pacifica’s five sister stations and 125+ Pacifica affiliates.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- With Executive Producer, supervises execution of broadcast
- Participates in daily editorial calls to plan news coverage
- Edits daily headlines copy
- Coordinates News Feature Reports (2-3 per week): solicits stories, coordinates stringer reporters, edits final feature segments, edits intro and feature script
- Coordinates Regular Features (2-3 per week): works with contributors, edits audio and scripts
- Writes and edits copy for intro, outro, and transitions between segments, making pieces flow in and out of one another
- Compiles audio components and edits final mixes for 5- and 8-minute versions of daily modules
- Uploads audio to Audioport.org and program website
- Maintains editorial schedule and plans coverage of upcoming news items
Required Skills
- At least six months experience in broadcast news production and proven track record of excellent news judgment
- Excellent skills in broadcast copy writing and editing
- Excellent skills in audio editing
- Ability to coordinate contributions from a wide range of people and opinions
- Strong ability to multitask and meet deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- At least one year experience in public or community radio broadcasting
- Experience covering election related news
- Experience distributing audio via digital platforms
Appointment:
50% (20 hours/week), Sunday-Thursday. Position begins on January 22, 2008 and ends on November 7, 2008, with a slight chance of renewal.
Compensation:
$20/hour and Pacifica’s benefits package
