The Pacifica Foundation is a non-profit mission-driven organization providing
educational media services. Pacifica is headquartered in Berkeley, California,
and operates radio stations in New York,
Washington DC, Houston,
Los Angeles and Berkeley,
California. Pacifica is currently seeking a full-time Human Resources Director
working out of our Berkeley, California office.
DEFINITION:
The Human Resources Director works under the supervision of the Executive Director
and is the primary professional supervisory and administrative support for a
full range of diverse personnel activities. The Human Resources Director is
responsible for development and oversight of all HR activities of the Foundation,
including but not limited to, employment, compensation and benefits, training
and equal opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Manage Foundation’s equal opportunity/affirmative action programs;
- Develop and maintain Foundation’s Human Resources policies and procedures
with respect to ethics, non-harassment and new employee orientation;
- Develop and manage Foundation’s compensation and benefits program;
- Develop and manage employee relations and recruitment and retention programs;
- Provide advice on all issues relating to HR policy, practice and employment
law;
- Work effectively with managers in promoting and embedding sound HR management
and policies;
- Review current workforce against future needs;
- Lead and improve Foundation approach to equality and management of diversity
, ensuring that policy and management practices are consistent with both employment
law and best HR practices;

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: B.S. in Human Resources Management, or 10 years related experience,
preferably in non-commercial broadcasting or non-profit management and/or training;
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong written and oral communications skills; knowledge of human behavior;
understanding of compensation and benefits programs;
- Demonstrated non-profit/private sector management experience; extensive
experience in employee and labor relations;
- Commitment to the mission of the Pacifica Foundation;
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity;
- Strong decision-making skills; ability to stay calm under pressure;
- Respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints; maintain confidentiality;
- Ability to think clearly and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
